As part of a larger project across many organizations at Microsoft, I created several solutions to enable blind and low vision users to engage with 3D content more easily. These features were designed with the help of years of existing research and countless subject matter experts.
Using Unity, I prototyped and shipped a few features for Microsoft Mesh and other products.
I collaborated closely with user research, designers, and engineers. I reviewed dozens of user research studies and insights from the MR human factors teams and talked to several Microsoft employees who are blind to better understand their needs and expectations. I also used screen readers every day to get into the shoes of users and worked with the accessibility team at Xbox, which was an amazing resource.
My work on accessibility features for 3D experiences positioned me as a thought leader across Microsoft and the go-to expert in 3D accessibility design across the entire company. I literally helped write the book on it, by partnering with legal experts to create a new set of guidelines and requirements in this space.
